AMERICAN FOOTBALL LEAGUE
SEASON PREVIEW & PREDICTIONS
LAMAR HUNT DIVISION
*65 Toss Power Trap – Solid fantasy football team but still not quite up to the standard set by Coach Stevie Ray McSchottenheimer. At QB he has solid Tony Romo who is poised to have a big year with his backup being Rex Grossman which is his weakness. He is solid at RB with Joseph Addai, Brandon Jacobs and Cadillac Williams. At WR he stole in my humble opinion Reggie Brown and took a gamble on Super Talent Rookie Calvin Johnson. The one thing that separates them from the rest of the division is their defense in the Chicago Bears.
Predicted Record 8-4
+++The Matriculators – Carbon Copy of 65 TPT except much stronger at QB. At QB he is led by All Time Pro Football great Tom Brady who is a Superstar at that position. At RB they have a very good group in Frank Gore and the Minnesota connection in Chester Taylor/Super Rookie Adrian Peterson. At WR they are hurting some with little depth but again they made sure they had a solid defense in the San Diego Chargers.
Predicted Record 7-5
J. Dawg’s Boys – First year owner Jason Robison has a lot to learn about this style of fantasy football. First and foremost is this, WRs are a dime a dozen. He is fine at QB with Carson Palmer but he only has one solid RB in Travis Henry. He is great at WR with players like Torry Holt, Javon Walker and Reggie Wayne but like I said earlier a WR is a dime a dozen. He did draft a solid defense in the Denver Broncos.
Predicted Record 5-7
The 187’s – The defending Super Bowl Champion has a tough road to defend his title. He does have talent at QB with Matt Leinart and at RB with Clinton Portis and Reggie Bush. The problem he has is very little depth at WR especially with his trade of Braylon Edwards. Also he does have a weakness at defense that will likely cost him in the end.
Predicted Record 4-8
AL DAVIS DIVISION
***Chardinals – Maybe the most talented team in the AFL. The Chardinals are very strong at QB with Drew Brees and at RB with Shaun Alexander and Cedric Benson. At WR he is also pretty good with Laveranues Coles, Chris Chambers and Anquan Boldin. To top it off he also has speedy TE Vernon Davis and the New England Patriots.
Predicted Record 9-3
O.G.’s – If this team only had a QB I could believe in. I just don’t see Ben Roethlisberger, Byron Leftwich or even Madden Curse cover boy Vince Young being the answer for the O.G.’s. The O.G.’s absolutely stole Larry Johnson and even Ronnie Brown at the end of the 1st top of the 2nd round. They also have 2 pretty good Dime a Dozen WR in Terrell Owens and Larry Fitzgerald. They are hurting at defense with Miami and Washington.
Predicted Record 6-6
Who Dey – This team is very similar to the O.G.’s in which they have no QB. Jake Delhomme, Chad Pennington and Jason Campbell long term is just not going to cut it. At RB they are ok with Fast Willie Parker and reliable Rudi Johnson. At WR they are also pretty good with maybe the best WR in the game today in Steve Smith-(IF he can stay healthy) but they took a hit with the injury to Donald Driver.
Predicted Record 5-7
Invincible – Jon Kitna can be a good fantasy QB, it still doesn’t make him to be a good NFL QB. Edgerrin James is a solid pick but Willis McGahee still needs to get the Ravens offense down and still needs to hit the hole harder. Chad Johnson and Roy Williams are good but Koren Robinson as a backup???
Predicted Record 2-10
LANCE ALWORTH DIVISION
**Amish Rake Fighters – The ARF is very good at QB with Marc Bulger and they have the best player in all of football in LaDainian Tomlinson at RB. The other RB will either be Rookie Brandon Jackson or RRBC Marion Barber of Dallas. At WR he has explosive Lee Evans and at TE Todd Heap. What separates him from the Maradas and The Playmakers is he has the Baltimore Ravens.
Predicted Record 9-3
++The Playmakers – Very strong team lead by QB Donovan McNabb. At RB they are also strong with Thomas Jones and Steven Jackson. At WR they are lead by Randy Moss and Marques Colston/Braylon Edwards. At TE they also have Jeremy Shockey and on defense they have Doomsday-(aka the Dallas Cowboys)
Predicted Record 7-5
+Maradas – The Maradas had one of their better drafts which still don’t say much. They have the best QB in the business in Peyton Manning but absolutely nothing behind him so he better stay healthy. At RB they have solid young RB Laurence Maroney and Jamal Lewis with Deuce McAllister. He is very solid at WR with Marvin Harrison and T.J. Houshmandzadeh along with a solid defense in Carolina.
Predicted Record 6-6
Bayou Bengals – The only thing I will say about this team is why on Earth would anybody take Julius Jones in the 2nd freaking round. Nuff Said.
Predicted Record 1-11
